Der Autor

Stefan Z. Dmochowski, Jahrgang 1948, Absolvent der Filmhochschule Lodz, Polen, hat einen Teil seiner Kindheit und Jugend in Nigeria verbracht. Sein Vater war seit Mitte der 1950er Jahren als Architekt und Architekturhistoriker in Nigeria (Werk:"An Introduction to Nigerian Traditional Architecture", 3 Bde.). Der Autor hat später brilliante Bilder von den Unruhen in Warschau für den britischen TV-Sender Visnews geliefert, als das Jaruzelski-Regime die Solidarnocz-Bewegung verfolgte. Mitte der 1980er Jahre ist er in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland übergesiedelt und hat für einige Jahre deutsche TV-Sender - WDR, ZDF, RTL, SAT1 - in den Sparten News und Sport die Kamera draufgehalten. Von Haus aus ist Dmochowski Filmkameramann, großgeworden auf 16mm, perfekt von der Schulter. Stefan Z. Domochwski lebt heute in England und Polen. Den Olowo of Owo traf er als Neunjähriger.

Preface
The rainy season had ended and the dry season just begun. The forest was lush and green but the savannah was dry. It was Christmas 1957.
This is Yoruba country.
The Yoruba people are one of the four predominant tribes, the others being the Haussa in the north, the Ibo in the east and the Fulani, who are nomadic herdsmen, everywhere.

My father had been driving through the rain forest since early morning. He was probably both tired and angry, tired from manoeuvring the station wagon between the potholes we didn't fall into and angry at the local road train drivers who usually tried to run you off into the trees as you overtake one, two or even three monstrous trailors and then the towering cab, furnished with the obligatory spotless white toothed smile surrounded by the coal black face of its native Yoruba haulier.
